National Trust Days Out In South Devon

Our family of holiday parks are situated just a short stroll from one another on the sunny South Devon coast in the heart of the UK’s award-winning English Riviera.

As well as having more attractions than any other seaside resort in the UK, beautiful beaches, stunning coastlines, and delicious Devon cream teas, we are also host to some fantastic National Trust properties to explore. Check out our top 5 properties below:

1. Greenway House

Situated on the banks of the River Dart, Greenway House was the beloved holiday home of the famous and much-loved author Agatha Christie and her family. The house is presented in the style of the 1950’s, during this period, Agatha and her family would spend summer’s here with friends. You can also explore the large woodland gardens that slowly drift down towards to Dart estuary.

Top Tip: If you plan to travel by car you MUST pre-book your car parking space. Visit the Greenway website for full details.

2. Overbeck’s

Possibly one of the most beautiful gardens, this hidden paradise must be on any ‘garden lovers’ bucket list.

Tucked away in the hills above Salcombe is this subtropical garden, full of colour and filled with exotic and rare plants. The views from the gardens over the estuary are superb and Inside the house at Overbeck’s you’ll find Otto’s ‘Rejuvenator’, once believed to cure all ills, and the melodious giant music box called a polyphon (you can choose a disc to play).

3. Compton Castle

A rare survivor, this medieval fortress with high curtain walls, towers and a portcullis, is set in a landscape of rolling hills and orchards. Compton Castle is a bewitching mixture of romance and history. Photo credit – ©National Trust Images/Andrew Butler

4. Saltram

Saltram overlooks the River Plym close to Plymouth. Strolling along the riverside or through the woodland, you can almost forget that the city lies so close. Home to the Parker family from 1743, this mansion is magnificently decorated, with original contents including Chinese wallpapers and an exceptional collection of paintings.

The garden has a working 18th-century orangery and follies, beautiful shrubberies and imposing specimen trees providing year-round interest.
