Top Things To Do This December
Looking for a festive getaway with a dose of sea air and sprinkling of festive spirit? Beverley Holidays is the perfect base for keeping cosy, plus we have some magical wintertime treats right on our doorstep. From a stream train wrapped in lights to a chance to meet the man of the moment himself, here’s our top 5 things to do in Torbay this Christmas and in the run up…
1. Bay of Lights
This Christmas sees the return of the hugely popular Bay of Light Illumination Trail – a free route running from Torre Abbey to Torquay town centre that shines a light on some of Torquay’s sights. A 12-metre-high Christmas tree will have you feeling festive with its spectacular light show, while a huge light tunnel covered top to toe in lights brings some illuminated magic to the town from 1 December to 3 January 2024.
2. South Devon Train Of Lights
Forget the Polar Express, the hottest train ticket in town this Christmas is the English Riviera Train of Lights. Hop onboard the historic steam train as it transports you on a magical journey along the Torbay coastline in carriages adorned with twinkling lights until 30 December 2023. Hold on to your Santa hat as you journey through a 450-metre Greenway tunnel towards an enchanted forest, and have your camera at the ready to capture the lights reflected on the river Dart.
3. Model Village Miniature Christmas
Sometimes the best gifts come in small packages and Babbacombe Model Village certainly packs a big festive punch with its miniature Christmas displays until 31 December 2023. Discover seasonal scenes of a titchy world where the residents are no bigger than your thumb, including Santa himself. Grab yourself a Christmas character spotter sheet for some added festive fun, and be sure to swing by its new enchanted mythical kingdom – home to a flurry of fairies and cheeky elves.
4. Carols in the Caves & Santa’s Grotto – 29 Nov-24 Dec 2022
For a truly memorable experience this Christmas head along to the prehistoric caves of Kents Cavern which echoes with festive sounds until 14 December 2023. Wonder through the amazing caverns – the perfect acoustic setting for carols sung by candlelight. Then warm the cockles with a mulled wine and hot chocolate – the perfect Christmas accompaniment to a two-hour experience like no other.
5. GloWild
Hot foot it to Paignton Zoo and enjoy an after-hours visit celebrating its centenary year in illuminated style until 2 January 2024. This Christmas, the award-winning attraction hosts its biggest-ever festive event entitled GloWild – an immersive light experience that shows the zoo and its’ animal residents in a whole new light. From a giant interactive storybook, lit-up trees, tunnels and magic wishing well, there’s also a chance to get down at a silent disco.
